"When I get sad, I stop being sad and be AWESOME instead! True Story!"
One of my most favorite quotes of all time is from the TV show "How I Met Your Mother" spoken by the infamous Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson. I giggle every time I read this or hear it. Although grammatically incorrect it's clear that Barney doesn't just stop being sad or doesn't start working on being more awesome, rather he exude confidence and believes in his self-worth eternally. True self appreciation or self-worth is sometimes what we need and lack.
So believe it and hang this up in your office or refrigerator if you are AWESOME!
The dictionary defines self-worth as “the sense of one’s own value or worth as a person.” It's our attitude which is built on our values and authenticity, as well as our accomplishments and contribution to society. Recently I read an article in Forbes magazine that low self-esteem and self-worth can hinder personal and professional prospects. Just like Barney, confident people don't become confident because they landed an awesome high-paying job; to the contrary, they landed that stellar job because they perceived themselves in a positive light.
Here is the Barney clip:
So the true path to higher self-esteem and confidence is simply changing the way you look inwards at yourself. Now go BE AWESOME!
